DESCRIPTION
Imari inkwell. Japan, first third of the twentieth century.
In hand-painted ceramic.
Measurements: 6,5 x 21,5 x 14,5 cm.
Imari ceramic desk set consisting of a rectangular tray and two ink reservoirs. The decoration, characteristic of the Imari style, combines cobalt blue, iron red and gold tones on a white background, with floral and geometric motifs distributed in stripes and medallions.
The piece reflects the influence of the Arita craft tradition, standing out for its vibrant polychrome and decorative balance. This type of inkwells, intended for the local market and also for export, became popular during the Meiji period and continued to be produced in the first decades of the 20th century, maintaining the elegance and meticulousness typical of Japanese porcelain.
