Pair of Satsuma ceramic vases. Satsuma ware is a style of Japanese pottery that originated in the 17th century in the province of Satsuma, on the island of Ky?sh?. They are an example of white Satsuma Yaki ware, which is characterized by a pale yellow base and a smooth glaze with small cracks.
