DESCRIPTION
Pair of vases; China, Shiwan, Qing dynasty, c. 1880.
Glazed and hand-painted stoneware.
Measurements: 29 x 12 cm (x2).
Pair of Shiwan ceramic wall vases. Both, made in painted stoneware, have the same ornamentation. This is based on a figurative pattern in relief, with several half-bulk male characters located in the central area of each vase. The handles also have a figurative conception similar to tree trunks. These vases are known for their blue glaze and relief figures representing people. Shiwan ware is a type of Chinese pottery originating from Guangdong province.
