The Shukongoshin, whose name literally means "Celestial Being Holding the Vajra" (the diamond and lightning weapon), is a protective deity of Buddhism. He is characterized by his furious expression, piercing eyes, and dynamic posture. Unlike serene Bodhisattvas, Shukong?shin wears warrior armor (or celestial deities), with belts and billowing cloth to reinforce the sense of movement. The most famous and distinctive sculpture of Shukong?shin is at T?dai-ji Temple in Nara, Japan.
