DESCRIPTION
Large plate; Japan, Meiji period, first quarter of the nineteenth century.
Cloisonné enameled bronze.
Measurements: 9 x 61 cm.
Large Japanese plate, made in enameled bronze with the cloisonné technique, belongs to the Meiji period (first quarter of the 19th century), a period characterized by the opening of Japan to the world and the refinement of the decorative arts. On a uniform pink background of exquisite delicacy, a naturalistic composition unfolds with two cranes, symbols of longevity and purity, set among a lush array of flowers and branches of chrysanthemums and peonies, depicted with great precision and chromatic elegance. The contrast between the deep black of the foliage and the soft tones of the flowers and birds gives dynamism and harmony to the whole.
The rim of the plate has an enameled frieze of floral motifs in relief, which frames the central scene with sobriety. The work reflects the technical mastery and refined aesthetic sense of Japanese cloisonné of the Meiji era, where nature is interpreted with a balance between realism and decorative stylization, evidencing the fusion between traditional craftsmanship and taste for modernity.
