DESCRIPTION
Japanese school; Meiji period, c. 1900.
"Demon."
Patinated bronze.
It has flaws in the upper area and at the base.
Measurements: 18 x 16 x 11 cm.
Sculpture in patinated bronze, belonging to the Japanese school of the Meiji period that represents the figure of a demon, probably an oni, recurrent creature in the Japanese mythological imaginary, captured in an expressive and dynamic pose.
The character, with a muscular body and grotesque gesture, appears seated with one leg crossed while raising one arm energetically, generating a sensation of upward movement. His face, with exaggerated features, shows a wide smile and an intense gaze, elements that combine the fearsome with the comical, in an ambiguity typical of Japanese art of the time.
