DESCRIPTION
Vase; Japan, Meiji period, c. 1910.
Gilded bronze.
Measurements: 20 x 10 cm.
This Japanese gilded bronze vase, belonging to the Meiji period (c. 1910), represents with great mastery the technical and aesthetic refinement characteristic of Japanese metal art of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. With an elongated body and elegantly expanded profile towards the neck, the piece combines a polished surface with intricate reliefs and polychrome applications.
The use of gilded bronze gives the whole a warm luminosity that highlights the details of the relief. The carefully balanced composition is developed around the trunk of a tree that ascends the body of the vase, guiding the viewer's gaze in an ascending path that reinforces the sensation of verticality and serenity.
