DESCRIPTION
Pair of vases. China, 20th century
Enameled porcelain
Measurements: 42 x 19 x 19 cm (each).
From the Republican period and throughout the twentieth century, numerous Chinese workshops continued to produce decorative porcelain for both the domestic and export markets, maintaining traditional iconographies highly prized for their symbolism.
In the vases in tender, the glazed decoration centrally highlights the character "Shuang Xi" - the symbol of Double Happiness - repeated in cartouches, a motif traditionally associated with good omen, marital harmony and prosperity, suggesting a decorative use linked to the domestic or ceremonial sphere.
