Official. China, Tang dynasty (618-907)
Glazed ceramic.
It presents punctual losses of glaze according to its age.
Measurements: 24 cm (height).
Funerary figure representing a civil servant, belonging to the tradition of the mingqi of the Tang dynasty. These sculptures accompanied the deceased in the tomb as part of his symbolic entourage, reflecting the social order and administrative structure of the empire.
The piece shows the character with his hands joined in front in a ceremonial attitude. He wears a long robe covered by glaze in amber and cream tones, characteristic of the Sancai productions (three colors) of the Tang period. The modeling of the face, with serene features and restrained expression, responds to the idealized naturalism typical of the period.
The Tang dynasty is considered one of the periods of greatest artistic splendor in China, standing out especially in the production of glazed funerary ceramics. This type of figures is especially valued for its historical relevance and its fundamental role in the funeral rituals of imperial China.
