It features the classic, voluminous, domed bald head—an unmistakable iconographic trait symbolizing the wisdom accumulated over the centuries. In his right hand, he holds a large divine peach, a legendary fruit that, according to Taoist mythology, grants eternal life to whoever eats it. In his left hand, he holds a ceremonial staff made of gnarled wood, decorated at the top with a gourd or güiro (hulu), a traditional vessel containing the elixir of immortality or sacred medicines.
The wise old man wears a loose-fitting traditional tunic decorated on the front with geometric incisions of the stylized character for longevity (Shou). His face bears a smiling, benevolent, and welcoming expression, framed by an extremely long beard divided into fine strands.
