DESCRIPTION
Pair of candlesticks with chinoiserie motifs, Familia Rosa style, ca. 1900.
Familia Rosa-style glazed porcelain.
In good condition.
Measurements: 25 x 20 x 13 cm.
A pair of candelabra designed in the European chinoiserie style, combining oriental porcelain figures with an elaborate gilded metal structure shaped like bamboo stalks, embellished with porcelain flowers modeled in relief. The figures, depicted seated and dressed in flowing robes, feature vibrant polychrome colors dominated by pinks, greens, yellows, and blues, with profuse floral and bird motifs, reflecting the exuberant aesthetic of the Rosa family. The white porcelain faces deliberately contrast with the ornate richness of the garments. Arms designed to hold the candles emerge from the plant-like structure, topped by flower-inspired candleholders.
The ensemble reflects the renewed interest in Chinese art that characterized European decorative arts during the 19th and early 20th centuries, when porcelain and Oriental motifs were incorporated into luxury objects intended for historicist and eclectic interiors.
