The Birkin bag by Hermès takes its name from the English singer and actress Jane Birkin, muse of designers year after year, who during a meeting with Jean Louis Dumas, president of the firm, on a plane, explained to him that she could not find a comfortable travel bag where she could keep her baby's bottles, book, etc., and that it was also easy to open.
