BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
Set of two maps of Spain; England, 19th century. Measures: 41x 46 cm (larger). Lot formed by two maps in which are represented in each one of them, a section of the Spanish territory (East and northwest). It is interesting to note the legend on one of the pieces, which reads "Part of Spain. Comprising the provinces insight which the route of the pictoresque tour lays (Part of Spain. Comprising the provinces insight which the route of the pictoresque tour presents". In this sense, it is worth noting that during the 19th century Spain, which until then had remained on the sidelines, began to form part of what became known as the Grand Tour. The country was understood as a place inhabited by bandits and bohemians who aroused the interest of the public, whose fascination led to an increase in the presence of Spain in painting, literature and, of course, cartography, often linked to an increase in the demand for travel books.
