BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
Pair of Louis XIV armchairs. France, XVII-XVIII centuries.
Walnut wood and petit point upholstery.
Use marks. Slight damage to wood and upholstery.
Measurements: 109 x 60 x 68 cm.
Pair of Louis XIV style armchairs. The design follows the shapes and proportions of the French full baroque. With a high and open structure, in walnut wood, and with the seat and back upholstered in petit point. Characteristic elements of this style are the high, slightly inclined backrest, as well as the profusely turned and molded legs and chamfers. The four legs are joined by "H" shaped crosspieces, also carved with embossed highlights. The only part in which the wood remains smooth is the armrest, finished in a scroll. The upholstery in petit point reproduces a medallion on the backrest with two figures inspired by the Comedia dell'Arte wearing masks. Behind them, a line of houses is drawn. The rest of the upholstery is based on borders and vegetal motifs.
