Fayenza offering vessel corresponding to the XX dynasty of the New Empire (c. 1183-1154 BC), a representative example of the ritual ceramic production associated with the reign of Ramses III, whose cartouche is inscribed on the piece. Its morphology, typically slightly truncated cone-shaped, and the vitreous finish of the faience respond to the long Egyptian tradition of linking the blue color with regeneration. This type of vessel was used in Templar and funerary contexts to contain purifying liquids or offerings.
The cartouche of Ramses III inscribes the piece within a complex moment of pharaonic history. Ramses III, the last great ruler of the New Empire, governed an Egypt subjected to internal tensions and external threats, among them the attacks of the so-called "Sea Peoples". Despite this, his reign was characterized by a remarkable effort of economic and religious restoration, and by an intense building activity that continued the Ramesesid monumental tradition. The artistic production of the period, from the reliefs of the funerary temple of Medinet Habu to ritual objects such as this vase, reveals a strong adherence to the aesthetic canons inherited from the 19th dynasty, while showing a certain stylistic rigidity typical of the final period of the New Empire. The carefully traced hieroglyphic decoration maintains the precision and regularity that characterize royal craftsmanship, while the choice of faience underlines the symbolic character of the object, as this material was considered a "magical" substance capable of transmitting the vital and protective essence of the divinities.
