Serene representation of a seated Buddha, sculpted in stone during a period of great development of Buddhist art in China, probably in the context of the Song or Jin dynasties. The figure appears in a meditative attitude, with his hands in dhyana mudra, a gesture associated with concentration and the search for enlightenment, underlining his spiritual and contemplative character.
The face, with its soft features and introspective expression, conveys a deep sense of calm and inner balance, while the treatment of the body and the folds of the clothing reveal a refined sculptural sensibility, where formal simplification is placed at the service of spirituality. The composition is completed with a stelliform background or sculpted halo, which emphasizes the transcendent nature of the figure.
