This sarcophagus mask dated to the Late Epoch is a significant example of the funerary practices of the period, in which the representation of the face of the deceased acquired an essential role in the preservation of the identity in the afterlife.

Carved in wood and covered with polychrome stucco, the piece presents schematic but expressive features, with large eyes outlined in black that evoke the characteristic aesthetics of Egyptian art. The reddish tonality of the face, together with the remains of pigmentation still visible, is evidence of the symbolic use of color, associated with both artistic conventions and ritual meanings.

The state of conservation reveals the passage of time and reinforces its historical authenticity. These elements not only do not detract from the value of the piece, but also provide information about its age and archaeological context.

This type of mask fulfilled a protective and symbolic function, serving as a support for the eternity of the individual and facilitating their recognition in the transition to the afterlife. The work, therefore, is located at the intersection between art, religion and funerary ritual, offering a material testimony of the beliefs of Ancient Egypt.
