DESCRIPTION
Head of Eros. Roman, I-III century A.D.
Marble.
Provenance: Private collection, Normandy, France.
Good state of preservation. Small abrasions consistent with its age.
Measurements: 10,5 cm height, 17,5 cm. height with pedestal.
Delicate sculptural representation of Eros, divinity of love and desire in the Greco-Roman tradition, conceived in an intimate format that emphasizes the tenderness and idealized beauty typical of the infantile iconography of this god. The piece reflects the endurance of Hellenistic models in Roman art, where the figure of Eros -frequently represented as a child- acquired great popularity in both domestic and funerary contexts.
The surface has a warm patina with slight tonal variations that accentuate the volumes and show the passage of time.
