Fragment of an Islamic marble cenotaph, decorated with an epigraphic inscription and ornamental bands carved in relief. The piece preserves an upper band with Arabic script, beneath which runs a frieze of schematic arches, an architectural motif with a long tradition in Islamic funerary art.

Marble cenotaphs and funerary elements held a prominent place in Islamic visual culture, where the written word served as a vehicle for memory, piety, and prestige. The inscription, though fragmentary and partially eroded, dominates the composition and lends the piece a commemorative and spiritual dimension. In works of this kind, epigraphy is not merely text: it also functions as ornamentation, visual rhythm, and an affirmation of faith.
