Moche sculptural terracotta huaco depicting two seated figures with a rear stirrup handle, a type characteristic of ritual ceramics from the northern coast of Peru. The piece stands out for the expressiveness of the faces, with their very pronounced eyes and individualized features, as well as for the interaction between the two figures, which gives the work a marked narrative character.

The Moche culture achieved extraordinary mastery in sculptural pottery, transforming their vessels into complex vehicles for social, ritual, and symbolic representation. Their portrait huacos and figurative vessels not only depict human figures, animals, or supernatural beings, but also record scenes of rank, music, ceremony, illness, sacrifice, or daily life, always with a strong visual and cultural impact.

In this example, the two figures appear closely linked, one of them holding a circular object or instrument, which could refer to a ceremonial, musical, or ritual scene. The volumetric treatment of the bodies, the frontal arrangement, and the attention to gestures reinforce the piece’s dramatic presence, transforming the vessel into an image of great expressive intensity.
