DESCRIPTION
YOSHITOMO NARA (Japan, 1959).
"Aomori, Dog Saving Jar (white)".2019.
Injection-molded plastic sculpture-piggy bank.
Printed with the artist's copyright, title and location in Japanese and English (at the bottom).
This work is from an edition of unknown print run.

This piece is part of a series of utilitarian and sculptural figures created by Nara, in which she transforms everyday objects into supports for her artistic imaginary. The dog -a recurring motif in her work- appears here with rounded and simplified, almost childlike forms, and a still and reflective attitude that conveys calm and melancholy.
Conceived as a piggy bank, the sculpture introduces a dialogue between art, function and domestic object, blurring the boundaries between collector's item and accessible design.
Trained in Japan and Germany, Yoshitomo Nara's work combines influences from manga, punk, pop culture and a deep emotional charge, exploring themes of loneliness, vulnerability and individual resilience. His works can be found in major international museums and collections.
