Bronze seated Buddha, belonging to the kingdom of Ayutthaya, to the first period called Uthong. The Uthong style and periods are divided in 3 categories, A-B-C. This head is classified in "C", It is paradigmatic example of the fifteenth century. This style leaves the Mon and Khmer influence to be inspired by the Sukhothai style with an oval shaped head, more androgynous, and more refined details than the previous styles of A and B. Sitting in the lotus flower posture, he performs a mudra symbolizing that he takes the earth as his witness. It is the so-called Bhumisparsa mudra, or gesture of touching the earth. It alludes to the moment in which Buddha solved the problem of ending suffering when he was under the tree in Bodhi-Gaya. We can also identify numerous lakshana, iconographic symbols that identify the Buddhas. We identify in the head several lakshana or specific symbols of the plastic representation of buddhas and bodhisattvas of sacred significance, such as the eyelids rolled up, symbol of spiritual concentration and also of purity, due to its similarity with the petals of the lotus. The serene and symmetrical face is a symbol of the balance and serenity of a perfect being. The headdress, carefully carved, is inspired by the shape of a stupa. Finally, we also see the elongated earlobes, which allude to the large earrings worn by members of the upper classes and represent the concepts of greatness, nobility and wisdom.
