White porcelain, hand painted in Wucai glaze.
Exhibits wear consistent with age and use. With restorations.
Measurements: 34 x 25 x 25 cm.
Porcelain vase enameled by hand with costumbrista scenes of courtly theme, representing ladies and servants in palace terraces surrounded by vegetation. The neck of the vase is decorated with garlands of roses and chrysanthemums. Shades of green, blue and red on white dominate.
The Ming-Qing transitional period (ca. 1620-1683) was a time of profound political, social and cultural change in China, and this was significantly reflected in art. It was a time of great turbulence and experimentation, where established traditions were challenged and new forms of expression emerged.
