DESCRIPTION
High dignitary of the Ming Dynasty. China, XVI century.
Carved and carved wood, with traces of lacquer and gilding.
It is accompanied by a document with inscription and a coin.
Measurements: 59 cm (height).
Carved wood sculpture representing a dignitary of high rank in a seated and contemplative posture. This piece, created during the Ming dynasty, stands out for its refined chiseling that reproduces the brocade and ornaments of the costume, with a dragon in the belly. It is possible that it represents an imperial official. The serene expression and elongated earlobes symbolize the spirituality that, like the Buddhas, emperors and high dignitaries were believed to carry. Clog-like shoes peek out from under the skirt. The quality of the carving and details reflect the high artistic level of the time.
