DESCRIPTION
Yuhuchumping vase; China, Qing dynasty, 19th century.
Enameled porcelain under Sang de boeuf glass.
Measurements: 21,5 x 11 x 11 cm.
A Yuhuchunping (or YuHuChunPing) Vase is a type of Chinese porcelain vase with a distinctive pear or bottle shape, featuring a graceful globular body, a slender flared neck, and a flared mouth and base. Originated in the Tang dynasty and popular in the Ming dynasty.
Covered with the dark red glaze that gives the Oxblood style its name. The glaze is applied irregularly, allowing the color to slide over the surface of the piece, accumulating and creating gaps where you can see an intense blue. Thus seeking a naturalistic and expressive appearance between red and blue. The glaze "Oxblood" (copper oxide and firing in a reducing atmosphere), has been used in China since the eleventh century, and since the eighteenth century will be applied as we see here, with accumulations and irregularities.
