DESCRIPTION
Table; China, early 20th century.
Jumu (elm) wood and iron.
Measurements: 66 x 75 x 75 cm.
Chinese table made in the early twentieth century, made of Jumu (elm) wood and iron - Circular in shape, the table has a balanced and harmonious structure, supported by four curved legs ending in carved hoof-shaped feet, a recurring motif in classical Chinese furniture, associated with the stability and natural elegance of organic forms. The lower edge of the skirt is delicately carved with stylized plant motifs, which run around its entire circumference and provide a refined ornamental sense without breaking the sobriety of the whole.
The upper board, of thick section, houses in its center a recessed iron disk, finely decorated with geometric and floral engravings. This metal element, possibly a brazier or support surface for incense burners or hot utensils, suggests a mixed use between functional and ceremonial.
