DESCRIPTION

Polychrome wood and grille handle.
It shows wear.
Measurements: 85,5 x 192 x 47,5 cm.
Bench from China and dated in the first third of the 20th century, is a remarkable example of traditional domestic furniture reinterpreted for ornamental purposes. It is made of polychrome wood, with a grid seat. The piece presents a well-balanced horizontal composition, supported on solid legs that culminate in carved scrolls, decorated with zoomorphic and stylized vegetal motifs, in which traces of gilding and black and red paint are still visible.
The front of the bench is profusely decorated with carved and gilded reliefs representing floral motifs and geometric patterns, recurring symbols in Chinese art associated with prosperity and longevity. The backrest and armrests form an architecturally inspired lattice structure composed of interlocking slats in a geometric pattern.
