Bronze with patina.
Traces of reddish pigment remain in the hollows of the crown and face, indicative of historical ritual use. The patina is uniform and attractive, showing only minimal wear from handling.

This finely modeled figure depicts Ganesha in animated dance, captured in dynamic movement on his diminutive vahana, the mongoose (an animal symbolizing overcoming greed and granting prosperity), crouching on a lotus base of the characteristic Newar design. The compact proportions, rhythmic posture and expressiveness of the modeling are characteristic of Himalayan bronzes of the period spanning the late Malla to early Shah. In his hands he holds four of his traditional attributes: the sliding knot (sometimes rosary), fruits, an axe (ancud) and in the other one it looks like a fruit but is perhaps a representation of his tusk broken by himself for use as a writing utensil.

The elephantine head of Ganesha is crowned by a high tiara in the form of a flame, composed of radiating foliated elements, carefully chiseled and of unmistakable Nepalese technique. His four arms are extended in wide gestures, holding various ritual attributes associated with his role as a remover of obstacles. The figure wears a dhoti ornamented with beaded borders, as well as bracelets, anklets and a sacred cord, all executed with remarkable precision despite the small scale.
