DESCRIPTION
Pair of "Yuhuchunping" vases; China, Canton, 20th century.
Copper.
measurements: 48 x 23 x 23 cm (x2).
Exceptional pair of copper vases, belonging to the refined yuhuchunping typology, one of the most elegant and appreciated forms of the Chinese ceramic repertoire. Its harmonious silhouette, with a softly globular body, slender and flared neck, with a funnel-shaped mouth and base, refers to models originating from the Tang dynasty, when this type of vase was used as a vessel for holy water, loaded with deep ritual symbolism.
Both pieces present a unitary design of great decorative richness, characterized by an exuberant ornamentation of vegetal inspiration, executed with remarkable delicacy. The central body features a large clear cartouche framing a sophisticated floral and avian landscape, featuring peonies in bloom and birds, a classic iconography of Chinese art associated with prosperity, beauty and harmony.
