DESCRIPTION
Tibor; early twentieth century.
Enameled porcelain.
Measurements: 34 x 22 x 22 cm.
This glazed porcelain tibor, dated from the early twentieth century, is a decorative piece that is part of the tradition of oriental inspiration, widespread in the decorative arts of the time. With an ovoid body and convex lid with a pointed top, it presents a careful polychrome decoration on a light background, starring peacocks, flowers and branches arranged in an enveloping and balanced composition.
The iconography refers to classic symbols of Chinese culture: the peacock as an emblem of beauty and prosperity, and the flowers, associated with abundance and natural harmony. The vitrified enamels, applied in shades of green, blue and pink, bring liveliness and refinement, showing a refined technique.
This type of pieces was especially appreciated at the beginning of the 20th century, when the orientalist taste had a strong presence in western collections and interiors.
