Tibor with lid; China, late nineteenth century.
Glazed porcelain.
Presents hair on the base.
Measurements: 24 x 26 x 26 cm.
Tibor with enameled porcelain lid, made in China in the late nineteenth century. Made in a period characterized by the continuity of traditional models and, at the same time, by a remarkable opening to new chromatic palettes and markets, both domestic and export.
The piece stands out for the use of the pink background, known as famille rose, a chromatic range introduced in the 18th century that reached great popularity during the 19th century. This soft, luminous background supports a dynamic decoration of birds in flight among stylized clouds, a motif of strong symbolism in Chinese culture. The birds, often associated with cranes or celestial birds, represent longevity, spiritual elevation and good omens, while the clouds allude to the celestial world and good fortune.
The piece shows a careful application of the enamels, with fine contours and a controlled firing that allows the superimposition of colors without losing definition. This type of tibores was common both in well-to-do domestic contexts and in production destined for foreign trade, especially to Europe.
