DESCRIPTION
Small folding screen. Kano School. Ero era. Japan, 18th century.
Mineral pigments and ink on golden paper, mounted on lacquered wood structure.
Measurements: 39 cm (height).
This small screen of six leaves of the Kano school is a delicate sample of the decorative painting of the Edo period. On a golden background, the landscape unfolds with the contained elegance characteristic of this tradition: a pine tree with branches extended next to a water course and maple leaves, evoking the passing of the seasons and the harmony between nature and contemplation.
The careful composition and the subtlety of the line recall the refined aesthetics of the Kano workshops, intended for aristocratic or ceremonial interiors, where these screens brought light, rhythm and poetry to the environment.
