DESCRIPTION
Buddha. Burma, late 18th century.
Lacquered and gilded wood.
Condition: general wear and gilding losses according to the age, devotional use and the material nature of the piece.
Measurements: 53 x 25 x 16 cm.
Figure of Buddha from Burma, made of lacquered and gilded wood, dated at the end of the XVIII century. The image presents the Buddha seated in meditation posture, with a hand in a gesture of call to the earth, bhumisparsha mudra, iconography linked to the moment of enlightenment.
The piece retains a rich golden surface, partially worn by the passage of time, which reveals the underlying dark lacquer and gives visual depth to the whole. The face, with its serene expression, the lowered eyelids and the soft smile convey the restrained spirituality typical of Burmese imagery.
The rectangular pedestal, decorated with floral motifs and green inlays, reinforces the devotional character of the work and adds an ornamental note of great delicacy. The combination of lacquer, gilding, meticulous carving and antique patina gives the figure an intimate and ceremonial presence.
