Pair of large Italian ceramic plates from Urbino, XIX century. They are Maiolicas with mythological scenes. Both plates are hand painted, glazed and glazed.
Maiolica is an Italian earthenware or pottery glazed with tin that was first made in the Renaissance. The name comes from the Spanish island "Mallorca", where Moorish potters from North Africa made pottery. Italian maiolica was also called "istoriato", which literally means "with stories", as can be seen in these charges: they tell a story. The style quickly became very popular and was made on a large scale in northern Italy. It later found its way to France, the Netherlands and England, each of which would develop their own varieties.
