DESCRIPTION
Vase. Barcelona of the 30's. From the style of GENÍS CIRERA CASANOVA (Badalona, Barcelona, 1890 - Barcelona, 1970).
Enameled glass.
Vase or translucent glass vase, enameled in a slender belly with the representation of a Native American headdressed with feathers and mounted on a horse. A background of landscape and vegetation can be appreciated. The circular base and the neck are decorated with vegetal motifs. It follows models of Genís Cirera.
Genís Cirera is the last of the great craftsmen dedicated to the enameled glass fire. He started in this trade at age eleven, and won several awards at a very young age in national and foreign exhibitions, including the Special Prize of Decorative Arts (Bilbao, 1928), and several achieved in Barcelona (1943, 1944, 1947 and 1950), Sabadell, Vic and Manresa in 1949, Sitges in 1950 and Lleida in 1957. He also won the Honorary Prize at the International Exhibition held in Madrid in 1953, for a glass cup. It is said that his pieces were unique, since he destroyed the preparatory drawings and, if he was not entirely satisfied with the result, even the glass piece itself. His production was developed until 1960, and later his workshop continued to operate run by his daughter and son-in-law, but already in a more industrial form. His works are in numerous collections.
