DESCRIPTION
Pair of vases; Sèvres, France, ca. 1850.
Painted and enameled porcelain.
The vases are removable with respect to the bases.
They are stamped on the base.
Measurements: 19 cm (height, x2).
Porcelain vases of Sévres that present a decoration on cobalt blue background, enriched with golden fillets and painted cartouches. The central part features rococo-inspired gallant scenes, couples in idyllic landscapes, evoking Watteau's painting, while the base features polychrome floral motifs on white reserves. The flared silhouette, with a wavy rim and quadrangular foot on small legs, is evidence of an ornamental design intended both for its decorative function and for display in aristocratic interiors.
These white, vitrified and enameled porcelains reflect the technical and aesthetic refinement characteristic of 19th century European manufactures, where imitation of 18th century courtly luxury coexisted with high quality industrial production.
