DESCRIPTION

Following models by FULVIO BIANCONI (Padua, 1915-1996).
Pair of bottles, 1970s.
Murano glass.
Measurements: 45 x 8,5 cm (x2).
Pair of bottles made in Murano glass. Each bottle is handcrafted with a thick and wavy layer of hot glass of black hue, carefully applied in a serpentine manner on the transparent molten glass.
Fulvio Balconi moved with his family to Venice at the age of seven, where his natural talent for drawing allowed him to study at the Carmini Art School and later at the Accademia di Belle Arti. He began his career as an apprentice at the Murano glass furnaces under the direction of Michael Pinto. He also worked with various publishing houses in Milan (including Mondadori, Bompiani and Garzanti) as an illustrator and graphic designer. Bianconi met Paolo Venini in 1946, an encounter that led him to collaborate for several years with the Murano-based Venini glass house, a pioneer in 20th century glass production. Bianconi's language for Venini was based on the use of striking colors and simple shapes, often organically inspired, such as the seductive Fazzoletto series (1948) and the multicolored Pezzati vases (1950), which evoke abstraction. His work can be found in numerous museums and institutions, including: Indianapolis Museum of Art; Montreal Museum of Fine Arts; the Museum of New Zealand, Wellington; the Stedilijk Museum, Amsterdam; the Victoria & Albert Museum, London; and, in New York, the Metropolitan Museum of Art; the Museum of Modern Art; Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum; and the Corning Museum of Glass.
