DESCRIPTION
VETRI D'ARTI for Seguso; Italy, 40s-50s.
"Accordionist."
Murano glass.
Measurements: 35 cm (height).
Sculptural figure made in Murano glass, representing a musician with accordion, standing on a quadrangular base. The piece stands out for the mastery in the modeling of the glass, with hallmarks between the shiny black of the torso and the translucent golden tones of the pants and hat. The use of gold inclusions and the stylization of the forms reflect the technical refinement and expressiveness characteristic of Vetri d'Arti's productions for Seguso during the post-war period, a time of artistic experimentation in the Venetian tradition of blown glass.
The history of Seguso is that of one of the oldest glassblowing families in the world, originating from Murano (Venice), whose tradition dates back to 1397. The family, now in its 23rd generation, has passed the art from father to son and continues to create exceptional Murano glass pieces, which are housed in renowned museums such as MoMA and the V&A, and used in luxury and interior design projects.
