Vase of the manufacture Daum-Nancy, one of the most prestigious French glass houses of the Art Nouveau period. The piece, bell-shaped and gently quadrangular profile, is made of multilayer cameo glass, a technique that reached in the workshops of Nancy an exceptional degree of refinement.
The elaboration process involved the superimposition of several layers of glass of different shades, in this case, green, ocher and amber, which were then acid-etched and hand-carved to reveal the silhouettes of the landscape. A twilight forest scene unfolds on the surface, dominated by a stylized pine tree in the foreground framing a horizon of conifers reflected on a calm lake. The precision in the delineation of the branches, as well as the chromatic gradations of the background, achieve an atmospheric effect that oscillates between the pictorial and the sculptural, evoking the fleetingness of light at dusk.
The Daum manufacture, founded in 1878 by Jean Daum and consolidated under the direction of his sons Auguste and Antonin, was distinguished by its ability to integrate technical innovation and aesthetic rigor. Each piece was the result of a collaborative process between craftsmen and artists, where blowing, modeling, engraving and enameling were executed with the highest quality artisanal precision.
