Vide poche or empty pockets of quadrangular body on a truncated conical foot-The object is made of multilayer glass, worked with the cameo technique by acid etching and application of inclusions in relief. On a base of reddish and orange tones, green, ochre and golden glazes are superimposed, evoking an autumn foliage in full transformation. The leaves, modeled with precision, are integrated into the surface in an organic way, as if they were emerging from the material itself. This tactile and visual quality reinforces the naturalistic and symbolic character of the piece, in keeping with the ideal of unity between matter, form and decorative motif that defined the spirit of Art Nouveau.
The Daum manufacture, founded in Nancy in 1878 by Jean Daum and later directed by his sons Auguste and Antonin, established itself as one of the main centers of experimentation in the art of glass. His collaboration with artists and designers linked to the École de Nancy allowed him to develop his own language, in which technique was placed at the service of visual poetry. Each piece signed by Daum-Nancy is the result of meticulous craftsmanship, where blowing, modeling and engraving combine to produce objects of singular beauty and timeless modernity.
