Salsera belonging to the Medusa collection, collaborative work between the prestigious houses Rosenthal and Versace. Motifs of Greco-Roman inspiration, such as chariots of gods and heroes, are intertwined with golden borders on red in the Red Medusa series, one of the lines launched by Rosenthal and Versace, along with "Medusa Lumière" and "Medusa Oro".
The German ceramic, porcelain and glassware manufacturer Rosenthal was established in 1879 in Selb, Bavaria, by Philip Rosenthal (1855-1937), and is still in business today. Its first success in the market took place at the beginning of the 20th century, thanks to its delicate figural statuettes and its table services, of simplified and refined forms, very different from the earlier Art Nouveau pieces. After World War II, the factory completely renewed its repertoire and hired important designers such as Löwy or Wirkkala.
