DESCRIPTION

Vase, following Nasrid models; Spain, third quarter of the nineteenth century.
Polychrome ceramic.
It presents losses in the pictorial layer and flaking.
Measurements: 100 x 58 x 49 cm.
Vase made of polychrome ceramic whose shape and ornamentation are clearly inspired by the Andalusian tradition, evoking the refined decorative motifs of the Alhambra Palace in Granada during the period of Al-Andalus. The piece stands out for its large size and its rich ornamentation with stylized geometric and floral motifs, highlighting the emblematic presence of the gazelles, located in the upper area.
Nasrid ceramics was born as an artistic expression, as well as a commercial product in Malaga, after the foundation of the first Nasrid kingdom, also known as the Emirate of Granada, a period in which these territories were ruled by the Muslim people. Quickly the Nasrid ceramics gained great importance among the kingdoms of Spain, since after the fall of the ceramic production in Murcia and Almeria, as well as the impulse given by the first great ruler, taking advantage of his relationship with Ferdinand III of Castile, this ceramic grew in popularity gaining ground in uses beyond simple vases.
