DESCRIPTION
DAUM vase. Nancy, ca.1930
Blue frosted glass.
Signed.
Measurements: 30 x 26 x 26 cm.
Art Deco vase from the house of Daum, made around 1930. It is distinguished by its spherical shape, seated on a slightly raised circular base that reinforces its stability and sculptural presence.
It is made of blue glass, with an elegant frosted finish, with a regular vertical ribbing that wraps the entire surface. This treatment gives the piece a marked visual rhythm and a clear architectural inspiration, characteristic of the Art Deco language of the 1930s. The satin texture softens the reflections and creates subtle variations of light and depth, enhancing the chromatic richness of the blue.
Sober and modern, this model exemplifies Daum's transition towards refined forms and rounded volumes, moving away from the naturalism of Art Nouveau to embrace a more geometric and essential aesthetic.
Founded in 1878 in Nancy, the Daum house occupies a central place in the history of French art glass. After its prominence in Art Nouveau, the firm was able to adapt masterfully to the spirit of Art Deco, developing pieces characterized by purity of form, color research and mastery of techniques such as frosted and molded glass.
