This elegant Art Deco vase corresponds to the Actinia model, created by Lalique in 1934, one of the most refined pieces of his late production dedicated to artistic glass. The name of the model alludes to the actinia or sea anemone, a direct source of formal inspiration, reinterpreted through a fully modern and stylized language.
It presents a sculptural work that clearly recalls the organic forms of the marine world, a recurring theme in the work of Lalique. Made of opalescent glass, the vase offers a subtle milky iridescence with bluish reflections, which vary according to the incidence of light. This luminous effect, characteristic of Lalique, reinforces the sensuality of the relief and gives the piece a presence that is both delicate and sophisticated.
A leading figure in the decorative arts of the 20th century, René Lalique was able to evolve from the naturalism of Art Nouveau to a refined Art Deco, where form, matter and light are integrated with absolute coherence.
Vases like Actinia are today in important museums such as the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, the Musée Lalique and the Victoria and Albert Museum.
