This pair of German porcelain tibors comes from the renowned Carl Thieme Saxony Porcelain Factory, founded in 1872 in Potschappel, near Dresden, one of the great historical centers of European porcelain. The factory is part of the Saxon "white gold" tradition, which began in the 18th century, and was noted for the technical excellence of its hard porcelain and the artistic quality of its decoration.
From its origins, the factory opted for an innovative model, producing high quality white porcelain destined to be decorated by specialized painters, many of them trained in the Meissen tradition. This policy favored a great stylistic richness and consolidated the reputation of the house, especially in the exuberant floral decoration, one of its most characteristic features.
The tibores have a globular body crowned by domed lids with gilded conical tops, following classical models of oriental inspiration reinterpreted by the European decorative tradition. The decoration, executed on a white background, shows large polychrome floral bouquets - roses, chrysanthemums and wild flowers - painted with remarkable precision and chromatic sensitivity. The gilding reinforces the ornamental character and elegance of the whole.
These pieces can be placed in the period of consolidation and international projection of the manufacture, especially in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, when under the direction of Karl August Kuntzsch the factory won prizes at international exhibitions such as Brussels (1897) and Paris (1900), and exported its products to Europe and the United States. Since 1901, the use of the blue trademark "SP Dresden" guaranteed the authenticity and Saxon provenance of its porcelains, allowing reliable dating.
Despite going through complex historical periods - wars, economic crises and political changes - the factory maintained its activity until its transformation into a public works in 1971, which increased collector interest in the pieces produced before that time.
