DESCRIPTION
PIERO FORNASETTI (Milan, 1913 - 1988)
Service of 12 plates, model Specialità Torinesi, ca.1960.
White porcelain with gold thread, decorated by grisaille lithography with architectural views and cooking recipes.
Stamp on the reverse.
Provenance: Private collection.
Measurements: 24 cm (diameter).
This service of twelve plates belongs to one of the most characteristic lines of Piero Fornasetti's creative universe, where the domestic object is transformed into an artistic support. The Specialità Torinesi model combines images of historical architecture with handwritten texts and traditional recipes, creating a dialogue between visual culture, urban memory and gastronomy.
Fornasetti's signature grisaille technique lends a timeless and elegant character to the compositions, while the fine gold rim reinforces the decorative dimension of the whole. Each plate functions as an autonomous piece, but also as part of a choral narrative in which art, design and scholarship are intertwined.
Made around 1960, this service is situated in the heyday of his Milanese workshop. Fornasetti understood the table as a scenic space, where the everyday act of eating becomes an aesthetic experience.
