DESCRIPTION
Speciero; Aragon, sixteenth century.
Glazed ceramic.
Measurements: 9.5 x 10 x 10 cm.
Saltcellar or spice shaker made of red clay, glazed and painted, whose structure presents a clearly organized vertical composition. A piece of great similarity is conserved in the Museum of Colonial Art of Caracas, located in the Quinta Anauco, an institution dedicated to preserve objects of the daily life of the Venezuelan colonial time.
Seen from top to bottom, there is a turned bowl in the shape of a cup, enameled in ivory white and attached to a square base. On both sides small "S" shaped supports, painted in emerald green, support the main bowl, giving a certain dynamism to the piece. Below this set is a smaller parallelepiped, decorated with schematic leaves in horizontal arrangement, made in blue on a white background.
