Peter Piller is a contemporary German artist. In addition to his own drawings and photographs, his Peter Piller archive, whose images he compiles in thematic series, characterizes his artistic work. He studied at the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg, where he graduated in 2000. Peter Piller creates photographic archives and classifies them according to design elements and similarities in content. His archive is based on a collection of some 6,000 newspaper photos. In 2002, he received 12,000 photos from an aerial photo archive. They were produced by a company in the 1970s for sale on the doorstep to the homeowners depicted. The collections are supplemented by historical postcards, newspaper photos and Internet finds. He also walks around and takes notes. In 2005, for example, he made extensive walks through the Ruhr and Hamburg and processed them photographically. Several thematic compilations were created from the archives. The series of photographs have short and concise titles, such as "Sleeping houses" or "Girls shooting". The series have been exhibited several times and subsequently published in illustrated books.
