LLUCIÀ OSLÉ SÁENZ DE MEDRANO (Barcelona, 1880 - 1951) .
"Woman".
Ink on paper printed in XIX century.
Presents faults.
Signed in the lower left corner.
Measurements: 32 x 22 cm.
Drawing made in ink starring a woman of great volumetric presence whose clothing bears a strong resemblance to the female figure of the public sculpture enhanced by Llucià Oslé entitled "wisdom" and located in Dreta de l'Eixample in Barcelona.
Llucià Oslé i Sáenz de Medrano (Barcelona, November 13, 1880 - January 17, 1951) was a prominent Catalan sculptor who worked closely with his brother Miquel. He was born in Santa Anna street in Barcelona, in a family linked to the military: his father, Rafael Oslé i Carbonell, was from Barcelona and his mother, Càndida Sáenz de Medrano i Duate, came from Aldeanueva de Ebro. His artistic training began as an apprentice in the Masriera and Campins foundry, where he coincided with his brother and the sculptor Manolo Hugué, establishing early contact with the creative environment of the city. Both brothers were disciples of Josep Montserrat i Portella, and developed a production inscribed within a markedly academic realism. Their professional prestige led them to occupy sculpture chairs at the School of Fine Arts in Barcelona, training new generations of artists. Throughout his career, Llucià Oslé received multiple distinctions: at the Barcelona Fine Arts Exhibition of 1896 he received an honorary mention; in 1907 he was awarded the first medal in Barcelona for his work La Pobladora and, the following year, he received the first medal in Madrid for Presos, thus consolidating his reputation within the Spanish sculptural panorama of the early twentieth century.
