This watercolor responds to the costumbrista and romantic taste that characterized a good part of the French graphic production of the period. The scene presents a rural convoy - covered wagons, cattle, riders and walkers - treated with a light and transparent brushstroke, typical of nineteenth-century watercolor, which allows to suggest the dusty movement of the road and the changing atmosphere of the landscape.

The composition, animated by numerous characters and animals, reflects the 19th century interest in daily life, trades and travel, frequent themes in both French romanticism and traveling illustration.
